Go one step lighter than your hair rather than matching it, because a slightly lighter brow always reads softer and you can build from there. In the pencil, Soft Blonde suits blondes and light browns, Medium Brown covers most mid brunettes, Dark Brown is for dark brunettes and black hair. They do different jobs and the technique that works now uses both. Powder lays a soft veil of colour between the hairs you already have, which is what your eye reads as fullness, and it has no hard edge anywhere so it is very hard to overdo. The pencil draws individual hair strokes into the gaps where hairs are genuinely missing. Powder first, pencil second, spoolie through to finish. If you can only have one, take the powder for full but pale brows and the pencil for sparse ones.

Press the eye crayon into the base of your upper lashes rather than drawing on top of the lid. It fills the pale gaps between the lash roots, so lashes look denser and eyes look more open with no visible line at all. Makeup artists call it tightlining, it takes about twenty seconds, and it suits every eye shape. Look down into a mirror with your chin lifted and dab rather than draw.

Very likely, because the culprit is almost always the formula rather than the technique. The eye crayon is sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, fruit wax and vitamin E, with no parabens and nothing sharp or synthetic sitting against the thinnest skin on your body. If your eyes are prone to it, try one eye for a day first. And smudge just underneath the lower lashes rather than on the waterline itself, which looks identical from any distance and keeps the rim of your eye clear.
