Four things that make shade matching easy
These are the tips I give people every week, and they solve the vast majority of shade problems before they happen.

Daylight, always
Bathroom and overhead lighting are usually cool toned and will make almost any shade read wrong. Stand by a window facing out, or step outside into shade. This one change solves most shade problems on its own.

Match your depth first, undertone second
A shade a touch too deep will simply blend away. A shade a touch too light tends to read ashy or grey, particularly on olive and warmer complexions. So start with depth and refine from there.

Test on your jaw, not your hand
The back of your hand is almost never the same colour as your face. Swatch along the jawline and look at where it meets your neck, because that is the join everyone else sees.

Remember your skin changes
Most of us are a shade or so deeper by the end of summer. Plenty of our customers own two and blend them through the year, which is far easier than it sounds and means you are never wearing the wrong one.

Do you have a virtual try on?
Not any more, and I would rather explain why than leave you looking for it. A filter on a photo can show you roughly what a lipstick colour looks like, but it cannot match a foundation shade, because your camera, your lighting and your screen all change the colour before you ever see it. That is why so many people order from a virtual try on and still get the wrong shade. So I replaced ours with three things that actually work, and they are all above.
What makes a good selfie for shade matching?
Daylight near a window or outside in shade, a bare face, no filter, and please include your jaw and neck in the frame. That is genuinely all I need. If you can send two, one facing the light and one at a slight angle, even better.
How quickly will you get back to me?
Usually within one business day. If you are between two shades I will tell you that too, along with which one I would order first and why.
What if I am between two shades?
Very common, and easily solved. Order both as $3 samples and wear them across a few days, or order the deeper of the two, which almost always blends away more kindly than one that is slightly too light. Tell me your situation and I will give you a straight recommendation.
Can I use a liquid sample to choose a pressed compact shade?
Yes, and it is a clever shortcut. We do not sample the pressed compact, but a $3 Liquid Mineral Foundation sample in the same depth will tell you whether the undertone is right. The finish differs, the undertone does not.
I already wear another brand. Can you match from that?
Often, yes. Tell me the brand and the exact shade name you wear, and what has gone wrong with it in the past if anything, and I will tell you where you sit in our range. It is one of the quickest ways to get you matched.
Does the shade matching cost anything?
No. The selfie matching and the quiz are both free, and they always will be. Samples are three dollars each, which covers what it costs us to make and post them.
