How do I choose my shade?

If you would rather talk to a person, send us a selfie in natural light and we will recommend a shade, usually within one business day, at no charge.
What if the shade is not right?
Because foundation is a personal use beauty item we cannot accept returns for shade choice, so we would rather get it right before you order. Free personal shade matching, the Shade Finder Quiz, Virtual Colour Matching and $3 samples all exist for exactly that reason. If your order arrives damaged or faulty, contact us within 5 days and we will replace or refund it.
Does SPF 20+ mean I can skip sunscreen?
No, and we would rather say so plainly. The SPF 20+ in this powder is genuine mineral protection, but the amount of powder you actually apply to your face is far less than the amount used in SPF testing. Treat it as a helpful extra layer over your usual sunscreen, not a replacement for it.
Is it safe to use a loose mineral powder?
Applied normally, with a brush, buffed into skin, yes. The caution you may have read concerns breathing in airborne mineral powder, so the sensible habits are simple: tap the powder into the lid rather than shaking it around your face, tap the excess off your brush, and keep it away from little ones playing with it. If you would rather avoid loose powder altogether, our Pressed Mineral Foundation is the same idea in a compact.
What is not in it?
No talc. No bismuth oxychloride, which is behind a lot of the itching people blame on mineral makeup generally. No fillers and no harsh additives. It is vegan and never tested on animals. The full ingredient list is in the Ingredients tab above.
Will it look dry or cakey on mature skin?
Build it in thin layers rather than one heavy pass, and moisturise first. Maureen, who is over 60, wrote that it is better than a filter. If your skin leans very dry, pair it with a light face oil underneath, or consider our Liquid Mineral Foundation instead, which has a dewier finish.
Powder or liquid, which should I choose?
Powder gives a soft matte, oil balancing finish with SPF 20+ built in, and suits oilier or combination skin and humid days. Liquid is dewier and more hydrating, and suits drier or mature skin. Plenty of customers use both, powder over liquid.
Is it suitable for acne prone or reactive skin?
It is non comedogenic and formulated for sensitive and reactive skin, without the ingredients most often blamed for irritation. As with anything new, patch test first if you have an active flare.
