Half of how a product performs is the thing you apply it with. A good tool makes an ordinary routine look considerably better, lasts for years with a little care, and quietly does more for the finish than the next new product would.

Care & materials

Brushes. Wash every one to two weeks in warm water with a gentle soap or shampoo, always with the bristles pointing downward so water never runs into the ferrule and loosens the glue. Squeeze gently, reshape the head with your fingers, and lay flat over the edge of a bench to dry. Never stand a wet brush upright in a jar.

Rose quartz and gua sha. Wipe with a soft damp cloth after each use and dry properly. Natural stone is beautiful and it is also breakable, so keep it somewhere it cannot fall onto tile. A few minutes in the fridge before use feels wonderful on tired eyes.

Sharpeners. Empty the well regularly and wipe the blade clean so colour from one pencil does not transfer to the next. Chill a soft pencil in the fridge for ten minutes before sharpening and it will not crumble.

Why it matters

The quiet difference a good tool makes

1

The tool is half of the result

You can put an excellent foundation on with the wrong brush and it will look patchy, sit on the surface and wear off by lunchtime. Change nothing but the brush and the same foundation looks like skin. This is the least glamorous truth in makeup and the one most worth knowing. Before you buy another product, it is very often the tool that needs replacing.

2

Buy once, keep for years

Looked after properly, a good brush outlasts a decade of the cheap ones, and a piece of rose quartz will outlast all of us. That changes the arithmetic completely. A tool is not a repeat purchase the way a product is, which is why it is worth choosing something well made the first time.

3

Kind to your skin, not just your makeup

Soft, densely packed bristles buff product in without dragging, which matters enormously if your skin is sensitive or reactive, since half of what women blame on a formula is actually friction. Clean tools matter for the same reason. There are proper care notes in the tab above, and following them will keep this working beautifully for as long as you own it.

Questions

Anything you are wondering

How often should I clean my brushes?

Every one to two weeks for anything that touches your face, and more often if your skin is breaking out. Warm water, a gentle soap or shampoo, bristles pointing downward so no water gets into the ferrule, then reshape and lay flat to dry over the edge of a bench. Standing a wet brush upright is what loosens the glue and starts the shedding.

Are the brushes vegan?

Yes. Our brushes use synthetic bristles, which also happen to be better suited to mineral and cream products than natural hair, because they do not absorb the product before it reaches your face. Cruelty free throughout.

How do I use a gua sha or roller?

Always over a face oil or serum so the stone glides rather than drags, and always working upward and outward from the centre of the face toward the ears. Light pressure is plenty. Five minutes is a lovely amount, and a few minutes in the fridge beforehand makes it feel even better on puffy eyes of a morning.

How long will it last?

Years, with the care above. Brushes eventually soften and lose their shape and that is the sign to replace them. Stone tools last more or less indefinitely provided you do not drop them on tile.

My pencils crumble when I sharpen them. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing at all. Our pencils are soft by design because of the plant oils in them, and soft pencils crumble when they are warm. Ten minutes in the fridge first and they will sharpen cleanly every time.

Where is it made?

We are Australian owned and run. Our tools are made to our specification overseas, and every order is packed and posted by us from our studio here.

$9.95 standard, free on orders $99 and above, express $15. Packed and posted by us from our studio here. Returns are for damaged or faulty items, reported within 5 days. Stone tools do occasionally arrive chipped despite our packing, so send me a photo and I will replace it immediately.
