Why bother
Three dollars beats a guess

Powder reads differently to liquid
Even if you know your liquid shade, the same depth in a powder can sit slightly differently once it is buffed in. If you are moving between the two formulas, three dollars is a very small price for being certain.

Order more than one
Almost nobody gets it right from a screen, and there is no shame in that. Pick the shade you think is yours and the one either side of it, wear them on different days, and the answer becomes obvious. Three samples is nine dollars.

Moisturise first
Let it absorb for two minutes. Powder over damp skin grabs, and you will judge the shade wrongly through no fault of the shade.

Buff, do not press
Small circular motions with a kabuki. Tap the excess off the brush first, then build gradually.

Check at a window
Bathroom lighting lies. Daylight on your jawline is the only test that tells you the truth.

Wear it for a day
The right shade is the one you forget you are wearing by the afternoon. That is the whole test, and it is a lovely feeling when you find it.

How much is actually in a sample?
Enough for one or two full face applications, depending on how much coverage you like. That is deliberately enough to wear it out properly for a day rather than just dab it on your hand.
How many shades can I order?
Up to two of any one shade. I would rather you spread them across your likely range than double up on a guess, so pick the shade you think is yours and the one either side of it.
Is it the same formula as the full size?
Identical, including the SPF 20+. Same batch, just decanted into a smaller pot. What you learn from the sample is exactly what you will get in the jar.
I already know my liquid shade. Is it the same in powder?
Usually close, though not always identical, because the shade names differ between the two ranges and powder sits a little differently once buffed in. Tell me your liquid shade and I will tell you the closest powder match, and a sample confirms it for three dollars.
Why is there no tracking?
Samples go by standard post, which is how we keep them at $3, since tracking costs more than the sample does. If you would rather have it, choose an upgraded shipping option at checkout and we will send it tracked.
The shade I want is sold out. What now?
Leave your email on that shade and I will tell you the moment it is back. In the meantime, take the Shade Finder Quiz or send me a selfie and I will tell you honestly whether one of the shades in stock would suit you.
What if none of them are quite right?
Then tell me. Send a photo in daylight with the samples swatched on your jaw and I will look at it properly. Sometimes the answer is a different formula rather than a different shade, and I would rather work that out with you.
