The lip everyone is wearing now is a blurred one. Not a drawn outline sitting on top of your mouth, but a soft shadow around the edge that makes lips look rounder and fuller while the centre stays light. It only works if your liner is creamy enough to smudge in the seconds after you draw it, which is exactly what a hard dry pencil cannot do. This one blurs with a fingertip, and that single quality is what makes the whole look possible.

It keeps your lipstick where you put it
Colour travels. It settles into the fine lines around the mouth and by mid afternoon the edge has gone soft in a way nobody wants. A waxy, oil rich line laid down first gives lipstick a border it cannot cross, and filling the whole lip underneath gives it something to hold onto, so the colour stays true for hours longer. It is the least glamorous step in a lip routine and easily the most useful.

Comfortable enough that you forget it is on

How to get the soft full lip

Start at the cupid's bow
Draw the two small peaks first, then work outward to the corners. Beginning in the middle is what keeps both sides even, and it is far easier than correcting a wandering line afterwards.

Follow your own line, or a whisper outside it
If you want more fullness, step a fraction outside your natural edge at the bow and the centre of the lower lip only. Leave the corners exactly where they are, because that is what keeps lips looking plump rather than wide.

Blur it straight away
While it is still soft, press along the outside edge with a fingertip and gently push the colour inward. The line stops being a line and becomes a shadow, and a shadow is what reads as volume.

Fill in, and keep the centre lighter
Colour the whole lip for staying power, then leave the very centre a shade lighter or add a touch of gloss there. Light in the middle and depth at the edges is the oldest trick there is for a fuller mouth.

Which shade goes with which lipstick?
Neutral is the easy one and sits under almost anything, including our nudes and the Organic Lip Gloss. Ruby belongs with the true reds. Boysenberry works under the deeper berry and plum lipsticks and is beautiful worn alone with gloss on top. Tell me the lipstick you own and I will tell you which crayon matches it.
Can I wear it on its own?
Absolutely, and many of my customers do. It is creamy enough to fill the whole lip and gives a soft matte finish that lasts beautifully. Add a little gloss to the centre and you have a complete lip from one product.
Will it stop my lipstick feathering?
Yes, and that is one of the main reasons to own one. Line the edge and fill the lip underneath, and your lipstick has both a border it cannot cross and a base to grip. The difference is most obvious with reds and deeper shades, which travel the most.
Is it vegan?
There is beeswax in this one, which is what gives it that soft glide and the staying power, so it is cruelty free, gluten free and paraben free but not vegan. If you would like a vegan lip option, our Organic Lip Gloss uses carnauba wax instead and has no beeswax at all.
Will it dry my lips out?
It should not. The base is coconut and sunflower seed oils with fruit waxes and vitamin E, which is the opposite of the dry chalky liners most of us grew up with. Customers regularly tell me that is the thing that surprised them.
Should I overline my lips?
Only as much as feels like you. A whisker outside your natural line at the cupid's bow and the middle of the lower lip is enough to read as fuller, and blurring the edge afterwards is what keeps it believable. Plenty of women look loveliest simply following their own shape, so do whatever you enjoy.
