The landmark twelve week trial that made niacinamide famous used five per cent, and that is the concentration in this bottle. Not a token trace so the word can appear on the front, and not ten per cent chasing a bigger number that a lot of skin cannot tolerate. Five is the dose with the evidence behind it and the tolerance to match, which is why I have never seen a reason to move off it.
★★★★★“Love this serum. It works!”

Niacinamide moderates how much oil your skin produces, and that is the change you feel soonest, usually inside two to four weeks, when you realise you have stopped blotting at lunchtime. Pores are the slower reward. Give it eight to twelve weeks of daily use and the skin around them is firmer and better supported, so they sit finer and catch less light. Both changes make foundation behave differently.
★★★★★“I absolutely love the Balancing Vitamin B Serum, it feels so fresh to put on and really makes my skin feel smooth and fresh!”

Most things that take oil away leave skin stripped and cross about it. This does the opposite. Niacinamide builds the ceramides your barrier is made from, vitamin B5 holds water in the outer layers, and licorice root has been used for generations to settle redness and even out tone. The point is balanced skin, not dry skin. There is a real difference and your face knows it.
★★★★★“My skin is glowing! The redness is starting to even out and my face has never looked better.”

This is a daytime serum. Niacinamide balances oil and refines pores across the day, which is precisely when you want that happening, and it gives your makeup a much better surface to sit on.
Press it into the face and neck with your fingertips rather than rubbing. Rubbing is how a light serum ends up on your hands instead of your skin.
Give it thirty seconds or so. Serums go first because they are lightest, and your moisturiser goes over the top to hold everything in place.
Sunscreen last in skincare, first in protection. Once that has settled your foundation goes on beautifully, and balanced skin is much easier to put makeup on than oily skin.
It makes them look smaller, which is the part you can see in the mirror. Pore size is largely inherited, but how visible a pore is depends on how much oil is sitting in it and how firm the skin around it is, and niacinamide improves both. The clinical work shows clear change in pore appearance over eight to twelve weeks.
Yes. The old advice that niacinamide and vitamin C cancel each other out came from a study run at high heat in a laboratory rather than on faces, and it has been thoroughly revisited since. Plenty of women use both in the morning. If you would rather keep them separate, put the vitamin C on first.
It can, because niacinamide is a barrier ingredient as much as an oil one, and dry skin often does very well on it alongside the vitamin B5. If dryness is your main concern though, the Youthful Hyaluronic Acid or the Rejuvenating Peptide Moisturiser will get you there faster.
Morning, ideally. Oil control and pore refinement matter most across the day, and it primes skin beautifully for makeup. If evenings suit your routine better it still works, because consistency beats timing every time.
Worth knowing about. White willow bark is a natural source of salicylates, which is exactly what makes it useful for keeping pores clear. It sits at a low level here, but if you have a known aspirin or salicylate sensitivity, patch test along your jawline for a few days first or check with your GP.
Yes, and it is a good pairing. Vitamin B in the morning, vitamin A at night. Niacinamide is also known for making retinoids easier to tolerate, so if your skin is easing into vitamin A this genuinely helps.
Very well, and it is one of the reasons women repurchase it. It is water light and absorbs completely, so nothing pills. Give it a moment before your moisturiser and SPF and your base goes on smoothly.
Niacinamide is not on the standard avoid lists, but I am not able to give medical advice, so do show the ingredient list to your GP or midwife. For reference, the one product I ask you to set aside while pregnant or breastfeeding is the Enriching Vitamin A Serum.

Ask me anything about your skin, before or after you order. I read and answer these myself, so you get a real answer from someone who has been through it.
These are the ones I would reach for alongside it.
